Our School Day

Start of the School Day

The school gates are open from 8:40am. Children go straight to their classrooms where they complete an independent task before/during registration. The registers are taken at 8:50am and lessons begin at 9:00am. Any children arriving after 8:50am should make their way into school via the school office and will be marked as late. While parents are welcome on the Key Stage 2 playground after school, children need to be dropped at the Key Stage 2 gate (by Kingfisher class) in the mornings. This is for safeguarding reasons. As teachers are busy with the children in the mornings, they are unable to have conversations at this time. Messages can be left for teachers at the school office or parents can email teachers directly. Parents are welcome to have informal chats with the class teacher after school.

Travelling to School

The roads around the school become very congested so we encourage families to walk to school. If you do drive, we ask that you please park considerately and please do not drive on to the school site. Please do not park on the yellow line markings. Bicycles and scooters may be brought to school (cycle helmets should be worn) and should be stored in the bicycle shed (the school cannot take any responsibility for any damage that may be caused). However, children are not allowed to ride bikes and scooters on the school grounds. Children should use the pedestrian crossings to cross the Norwich Road.

Assemblies

We have assemblies every afternoon. These are a mixture of whole school assemblies and class assemblies. Every Friday afternoon, we have a whole school celebration assembly. During this assembly, we celebrate positive behaviour and achievements. We encourage children to bring in certificates and trophies they have been awarded in activities outside school on Friday’s so we can celebrate achievements outside school. Every fortnight we hold an ‘excellence assembly’. Parents of children in involved in ‘excellence assemblies’ are invited into school to join us in assembly.

Break Time

Year 1, 2 and 3 have break time at 10.15am – 10.30am.

Year 3, 4 and 5 have break time at 10.30am – 10.45am

Lunchtime

Lunch is between 12:00 noon and 1:00pm. Children in EYFS are go into the dining hall at 11:40am to allow them more time to eat their lunch.

Drinks and Snacks

Children in Key Stage 1 are provided with a free piece of fruit at break time. Children under 5 years old are provided with a free carton of milk.

Key Stage 2 children may bring fruit in to eat at break time. All children need to bring a water bottle to school so they have access to water to drink during the day. Water bottles should be taken home at the end of each day so that it can be washed and refilled for the next day.

End of the School Day

The end of the school day is 3:25pm.

From Year 4, children can walk home from school on their own, but only if the parents have given permission. Children who walk home from school without an adult must have a special key ring attached to their bag so staff on the gate know they have permission to walk home.
