Curriculum Statement
At Attleborough Primary School, the curriculum is at the core of our school vision because we know its importance in contributing to our children’s success in life:
At Attleborough Primary School, everyone is given the opportunity to flourish academically, socially and emotionally. Our broad and balanced curriculum inspires our children to be curious, resilient and to naturally seek challenges. With collaboration at the heart of everything we do, we are a nurturing community that celebrates diversity and individuality. We teach and model the skills our children will need to adapt, succeed and thrive in an ever-changing world.
Achieve - Collaborate – Flourish
INTENT – What are we trying to achieve with out curriculum?
Attleborough Primary School is committed to meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum as well as going beyond it. We have designed our school curriculum with the intent of making it relevant to our children and the world they live in. We want them to appreciate the market town and county they live in, as well as provide them with the opportunities and the experience of the places that lie beyond the A11, where Attleborough is situated. So trips and real-life experiences, in every year group, are vital elements in the delivery of our curriculum - London, Cambridge, Lincolnshire, Norwich, Thetford, North Norfolk countryside, Norfolk coast, to name a few.
We understand that the jobs our children might have in the future, may not exist yet. So through our learning strategies, we teach them transferable skills that will enable them to be good communicators, problem-solvers and team members. We want our children to be broad-minded, respectful, resilient and responsible, so that they are equipped for life after school. We also know that it is essential that our children are computer literate and know how to stay safe online, if they are to meet the demands of today’s world.
We want our children to enjoy their years in school and love learning new things. We want our broad and balanced curriculum to engage and excite our children’s interests through hands on activities and real-life experiences. Enabling our pupils to FLOURISH as individuals as well as learners. We encourage our pupils to ask questions, learn from their mistakes and celebrate successes.
IMPLEMENTATION – How do we deliver our curriculum
Our curriculum will be taught with the consideration of all our learners. We encourage COLLABORATIVE learning and Growth Mindset to help our pupils learn through their discussions and mistakes. We encourage teachers to revise and review in every lesson to ensure key knowledge is remembered. We make cross-curricular links, where possible, within lesson planning, so that pupils can draw upon knowledge from different subjects and in a range of contexts. We have clearly mapped progression of knowledge and skills across subjects and year groups to ensure year on year development. This helps us measure the impact of our curriculum. We also understand that reading has to be a core feature of our curriculum, if children are to fully access it - so we read every day. All of this allows our children to ACHIEVE and reach their potential.
IMPACT – How do we know our curriculum is working?
We value the importance of hearing our pupils’ and parents’ voices about our curriculum so it can continue to evolve and meet the needs of the children we teach.
Pupil progress meetings take place with the members of the SLT at least twice a year and include discussion around assessments, targets, work scrutiny and
observation. Topic/unit quizzes show us if our children are remembering what they learn.
By the time our children leave us they will have experienced a wide range of opportunities from our curriculum and be ready for their next steps in learning.
